BG report from Sakata, Japan
A Japanese city caught between failure and glory • Sakata

Well, not only was today’s wander – and video – done in two halves, morning and evening, BUT both had some very good blood sugars to boast.
It all started when I woke up in my hotel in Sakata, Japan, in northern Yamagata Prefecture. BG was 141, not terrible at all. (It had been in the 120s and 130s all night.)
After the buffet breakfast I left and wandered the streets around town, pretty much at random. There was no big breakfast spike today. In fact, as I explored an overgrown but very attractive (to me) park, I was 92 but falling.

I could tell it really was falling and a low would be coming soon, so I had some glucose powder, drank the rest of my ¥100 water, and walked a bit more slowly for a while until I felt better.
Back at my hotel for lunch I was 137. I did laundry all afternoon. A snack at a local cafe spiked me briefly to 225, but then it headed back down as I prepared for the sunset.

Cafe for afternoon snack: cake and coffee
The plan was to ride the hotel’s free bicycle out to the coast, but I was low, in the 50s, before leaving. (That is quite a rarity for me since I got the CGM and set it to alert me at 80.)
I took care of it with more glucose powder, but it meant that I needed to wait until I felt a bit better. Catching the sunset was going to be in danger.

Dinner that spoiled an otherwise pretty good BG day.
When the sunset came in the hilltop park I’d found, I was 139 and had no diabetic worries. Back at my hotel a while later, BG was still good, although after another convenience store dinner it spiked into the 280s very briefly before settling down. (Though it was still around 200 all night, oops.)
