BG report from the Akita-Nairiku train line

The second half of today was spent on the Akita-Nairiku train line in northern Japan. It’s said by some to be Japan’s most beautiful line. And it makes a strong case for the title.

As for blood sugar, it had been falling from its minor morning spike, and by the time I found lunch at Aniai Station, it was 127.

The lunch, ultra-soft pounded rice cubes and potato chips and bear-shaped cookies, had carbohydrate information on all its packaging. So I knew how much to inject.

But, of course, calculating that correctly is never the whole story of what BG will become.

Fortunately, I was lucky on this day: the post-lunch spike topped out at 193, and then it went back down.

I checked in to my hotel in the city of Ōdate, and to my surprise and delight, they had a free dinner downstairs. A bowl of ramen and a side dish of rice.

When I sat down for that, I was low. I checked a few times during the dinner, and was in the low 60s. I didn’t take a shot until after eating, and for the rest of the evening, it was pretty good, between about 91 and 165.

There were some ups and downs, as usual, but they were fairly minor. A great span of BGs to go along with the great span of railroad.
