BG Report: Ohmi Railway day 1

My first day exploring the Ohmi Railway in Shiga Prefecture, Japan had the potential to be a rough one, blood sugar-wise.

The night before in my hotel room, I’d spiked to 299 right before bed. I took some Humalog and at 5:00 am was awoken by a low alarm, which for me was 79. I had some glucose.

When I got up for the hotel breakfast at 7:30 it was steady at 157. Better.

After I got on the train and started riding though, it was pretty soon high again, 288. I took two units of Humalog and, as I explored Hikone Castle a while later, had dropped to 139.

The timing made me feel that I was too low too fast, so I sat and looked at beautiful, snowy Mount Ibuki and ate a little bit.

From then on, everything was fine: 94 at 11:00 am; 112 at noon before I began eating some soba noodles in a little place by Hikone Station; then 80 at 2:00 pm, when I began walking along the ancient Nakasendō Road.

For the latter, which was right before a 3-kilometer walk, I ate a bit more to bolster it.

When I got to my hotel room, just before 4:00 pm, I was 118.

All in all, an up and down day that managed to reasonably right itself. I had walked nearly 20,000 steps and that exercise is what helped bring it down and keep it down. Exercise always helps.
