Driving along the entire Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park was great fun. Definitely nice to see one of America’s few national parks east of the Mississippi River. My blood sugars during the day were all pretty reasonable.

Yesterday was chaos in the fog and rain on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and dinner was a fairly rancid example of Long John Silver’s drive-through. After all that, before bed I was 328. I took some insulin and went sleep.

This morning, I had fixed it: I was 97. Nice way to start out a day in Shenandoah.

We hit the road and entered Shenandoah NP from the south. Stopped at the pullouts, got nice photos and footage for YouTube, and found a place for a nice picnic lunch. Before eating, I checked and was 183. That’s good, for a morning mostly spent sitting in the car.

In the afternoon, before a short hike to a waterfall about a mile into the forest, I was 70. Had some glucose and hit the trail, then spent the rest of the late afternoon admiring the sunset on the way out of the park.

At 7 pm I was about the same, 71. Dinner, tempting diabetic fate, was a large Mexican platter plus two beers. I took two shots during it, rather than one big one.

Upstairs in the hotel room, I then had a special beer I’d bought in the NP, plus a bit of fudge purchased along the Blue Ridge Parkway. After all this, I was 90. I went to sleep.

The next morning, things had spiked but not too crazily: 203. In its own way, a success.
